I took lessons from Iris for 2 years with great pleasure. She taught me a lot and adapted to my music taste, allowing me to learn a lot from the genres I love. Iris is a fantastic teacher!
I started playing bass guitar in 1982. With my first band, I spent entire Saturdays happily playing. Initially, I was going to sing, but that became no longer an option because I had developed vocal cord polyps twice due to incorrect vocal technique. There was no one else playing bass guitar at the time, so it seemed like the logical choice. While practicing for my first performance, I decided that playing bass guitar was the most fun thing in the world, and that’s why I chose to continue with it.
I took bass guitar lessons and played with different bands. In 1988, I auditioned for the Utrecht Conservatory, and 6 years later, I graduated there.
I have played in a wide variety of bands. All-round bands for large parties and events, special bands like Disco, Flamenco, African music, Kaseko, Salsa, Brazilian music, Jazz, Blues, Funk, and even a children's performance.
With my bass on my shoulder, I ended up not only in various European countries, but also in Japan, Kenya, America, and Nigeria, among others.
After graduating, I also started teaching.
Currently, I teach in Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep: https://www.cpunt.nl/ The HMC in Houten: https://www.muziekschoolhouten.nl/ Muziekschool VijfHeerenLanden: https://www.muziekschoolvijfheerenlanden.nl/ And at home through the Utrechtse Gitaarschool: https://utrechtsegitaarschool.weebly.com/ In the summer, I teach at a Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Djembe course. https://www.muziekindevakantie.nl/ Although playing and teaching bass guitar are still the most important things, in recent years, I’ve also been teaching ukulele.
